The Next Generation

Youth Wing of the Haslemere Thespians

In the summer of 1995, the Haslemere Thespians decided to make it's youth wing official. Since 1978, the company had produced occasional one-act plays performed by the young members of the Thespians but there had never been a formal set up devoted to them.

In 1995 it was decided to form a specific group for the growing number of Thespians below 18 years old who were interested in theatre, but had few opportunities in the main company.

At the first meeting, some fifty or so budding Thespians met and chose the name “The Next Generation”. Since then the membership has stayed above the fifty mark and regular activities have included drama workshops, one act plays and in 1998 the highly praised musical production of "Charlotte's Web" which saw the Haslemere Hall sold out.

The Next Generation has now gained even more freedom to expand it's horizons with more financial control and the approval to go out and do their "own thing". That means that they have been given the OK by the society to put on shows outside of the usual productions and any money made goes back into their own sub account for future productions. They will still be a major part of the main society, taking part on stage and behind the scenes in the normal productions.

Certain members have already shown a talent for back stage work as well as being good performers on stage. This is good as there is always room for back stage talent in a society our size.
